Are there other courses that I can take as Elective Concentration Course?

Modified on Mon, 13 Nov, 2023 at 9:18 PM

The following courses are offered by the FICS as Elective Concentration courses for ASIT students:

  • MMS 130: Information and Communication Technology for Development (ICT4D)
  • MMS 143: Introduction to Multimedia Computing
  • MMS 151: Introduction to Web Accessibility

However, as noted in the FICS webpage regarding the ASIT Curriculum,  courses in other undergraduate programs can also be used as Elective Concentration courses pending approval of FICS. Specifically, you may use ENT 140: Introduction to Electronic Commerce from the Faculty of Management and Development Studies (FMDS).

To take this course to fulfill your requirements

  1. Confirm that the FMDS course you want to take will actually be offered during the term you have in mind. See the section When will these courses be offered (below).
  2. Get the ASIT PC's consent first by filing a ticket
    • In the subject line, include the phrase "Permission to use FMDS course NAME OF COURSE offered during YEAR AND TERM as ASIT Elective Concentration Course".

  4. Once you have the ASIT PC's approval, request permission from the appropriate FMDS PC to register for the course by emailing them a copy of the ASIT PC's approval attached to your email request. Please do not forget to cc asitprogramsupport@upou.edu.ph in your email, so we can alert the Registration that you have been permitted to take the course. You can refer to this article in your email to the relevant FMDS PC.
  5. Register for the course once the appropriate FMDS PC has given you permission to do so.
  6. After you have successfully completed the course and received a passing grade, mark the course as PASSED in your ASIT Planner app-generated Plan of Study.

When will these courses be offered?

The scheduling for these courses is programmed into the Planner and updated to the best of the ASIT Advising staff's abilities. Only FMDS can definitively answer questions regarding the scheduling of these courses.
