I am enrolled (or was previously enrolled or intend to enroll) a course that doesn't contribute towards my ASIT degree; what should I do?

Many courses are available each term, some of which can be credited to your program of study and some not. It is your responsibility to be aware of what courses are required for your degree.

If you find yourself enrolled (or intend to enroll) in a course at UPOU that will not be credited to your degree, keep in mind that it may be better for you to use your time by enrolling in a course that contributes towards your ASIT requirements. (This is particularly critical for those who are recipients of the Free Tuition privilege.)

  • If you decide to discontinue the course, you can unenroll yourself via a Change of Matriculation or by dropping the course.
  • If you decide to continue with the course for self-enrichment (or if you had already previously taken a course that will not contribute towards your course requirements), note the following:
    • This extra course will still be part of your transcript.
    • The extra course may affect your GWA, either positively, negatively, or not at all.
    • It will not reduce the number of units you still need to take to finish ASIT; you will still need to complete all courses required for the degree.

Can I take more electives than the minimum required?

Taking more major or GE electives than the minimum required is generally not recommended. Studying at UPOU is challenging enough without the addition of unnecessary courses.

Who should I contact for questions or assistance regarding enrichment courses?

The ASIT support staff (including the Program Chair) cannot give any guidance regarding courses that do not contribute to your ASIT degree.
